Oh the Flea

UPDATE: The spray WORKS!!! 

I am currently dealing with a flea problem in my house. It is a mild one, not bad thank goodness. But the annoying little buggers just won’t go away. Because I have so many allergies, I cannot spray my house with store bought flea sprays. So I am embarking on a journey into the home remedy option.

Now, I have to say that I do use Advantix on my dog monthly. I have been doing this for going on 4 months now. I am assuming that this is not working since we are now dealing with this issue. I switched to Advantix because Frontline was not working. Of course, I have not tried the Hurtz brand yet because every time I have used it in the past, it has not worked. I am not trying to knock any brand here, just to be clear. I am thinking the darn little buggers are just adapting quite well to surviving all of these chemical sprays. It is increasingly becoming harder and harder to get rid of them or prevent them.

Okay so starting this all natural journey, I have taken the better part of an entire day researching all of the different methods people use. For each method, there are rave reviews and extremely negative reviews. This leaves one confused as to what will actually work.

Because of this mix of opinions, I have decided to create a mixture of my own using several of these natural items together. Here is MY list of ingredients:

1 liter of water (bring just to boiling)
5 drops peppermint oil
1 tbsp Coconut oil
1 small container of lemon juice
1 cup white distilled vinegar
1 tbsp rosemary & garlic blend
1 tbsp Italian Seasoning
1 tbsp Salt
( I did not have just rosemary so I improvised. I did not feel the extra seasonings would hurt)

I brought the water just to a boiling then added ALL of the ingredients into the water. I let boil for 5 minutes. I then removed the mixture from the heat, poured it into a bowl and covered it. I am currently letting it sit over night. In the morning I will strain the mixture so I am left with only the liquid. I will then pour it into a spray bottle and spray down my entire house. Both carpet and non-carpet floors, furniture, baseboards, and entryways. Since this liquid is also all natural, I will use it as a base to add normal Dawn dish soap too and bathe my dog in it. I am going to repeat this process every 3-4 days for about a month.

Are all of these ingredients overkill? Maybe so, but I am tired of these fleas. I want a bug free home. I assume that if most of these ingredients will get rid of fleas on their own, then a power mix should certainly do the trick. Only time will tell. Wish me luck.
