Online Dating-The Nude Pic

I know I have already posted an article concerning online dating in general. However, I wish to dig deeper into the subject of the ever growing lack of dignity and respect running rampant through the online dating world. This absence of morals seems to afflict both men and women.

I honestly do not understand the thought process one goes through in order to feel comfortable sending naked pictures of themselves to perfect strangers. Especially to those whom they wish or desire to have more than just a sexual relationship with. What kind of message are they actually sending?

At what point in the last decade did flirting become so immoral? 90% of the online profiles I see say they are looking for a long-term relationship. That they want to find their partner that will stick with them throughout the rest of their lives. They make statements like they are not into games or game playing, they don’t want drama, you must have your “shit together.” So why then send a naked photo of oneself?

What people who send these naked photos fail to realize is that once you send someone a nude picture of yourself; all respect is lost. The person receiving that photo no longer can trust you. They no longer think of you as being a good match for a long-term relationship. The thought process turns from one of interest to one of, “If they are sending this photo to me, who else are they sending it too?” The receiver will think they are not special to the person sending the photo. The person receiving the photo will also assume the person sending the photo just wants sex.

Let’s touch base on the trust issue for a bit.  I want to ask a serious question here. Would you trust a complete stranger you just met on an online dating site with your checkbook or bank account information? If the answer is no, then you should seriously consider why you are trusting them with your most valuable asset, your privates.

If one is honestly looking for and interested in a long-term committed relationship, no matter what their profile says; they will not send you a nude photo or ask you for one. Honest and respectable people just don’t do that.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying sending nude photos is a bad thing. IF you are in a long-term committed relationship where you truly love and trust each other, it can be refreshing and exciting to spice things up a bit. It is not, however, a standard you want to set for the people you are meeting on an online dating site. It is not the first impression you should want to give about yourself. So think long and hard next time you are thinking of complying with a request for a nude photo or wishing to send one. Likewise, if you are told no by someone when inquiring about a nude photo, don’t send one. It’s just not cool.
